City Club of Denver is holding a forum on the future mission and direction of Civic Clubs in Denver. City Club of Denver is are one of the nation’s influential and long-serving civic organizations. In the 88 years since its formation in 1922, we have hosted over 3,000 events covering all aspects of the civic landscape that affects Denver: local, state, national, and international. The 2010-11 program year has been exciting, with a wide variety of events in politics, civics, medicine, science, and the arts. Involvement of members is high, and the Club is reversing a recent decline in membership as we put behind us the economic troubles of the last few years, and launch into the future.

This event will shape that future. George Mitrovich, a nationally recognized speaker and veteran organizer of civic organizations, will join us to give a keynote speech on public forums, and the essential contributions that they make to the fabric of our cities and the quality of the lives of their citizens, with particular reference to Denver and the City Club of Denver.

Following the keynote address, Christine Soto will bring her skills in finding smart solutions for nonprofits and foundations to facilitate a focused discussion among current and past members to sharpen our definition of the mission of the Club, and to obtain consensus methods to fulfill that mission as we move toward our second century of civic involvement and service to the Denver community.

By the end of the event, with George’s insight and Christine’s expert assistance we expect to have a newly invigorated objective, and a plan to reach it. We urge everyone who has an interest in the future of City Club of Denver, and the desire to help shape it, to participate. We are issuing invitations to local leaders in government and industry who have an especially important stake in the vitality of Denver's civic life and the engagement of its citizens.  So come join us for this special event in the life of the City Club of Denver.

A writer and contributor to leading North American newspapers, he is also a public speaker of note, with the rare feat of four speeches published in Vital Speeches of the Day, on election funding, the dignity of work, the arts in America, and the moral dimensions of baseball. Long active in San Diego civic affairs as well as the faith community, he has served many local organizations, including the San Diego Committee on Charter Reform, the San Diego Stadium Authority, the San Diego County Fiscal & Justice Committee, the San Diego Pops, the National Conference for Community and Justice, the San Diego Human Relations Commission, and the San Diego Coalition for Equality.
