Q: How can I help plan City Club programs?

All City Club members are welcome and encouraged to come to Program Committee meetings and to join the committee. If you would like to join the Program Committee please contact us, and we will add you to the meeting notification list. The Program Committee is chaired by Bob Root and can be contacted through City Club. The Committee is co-chaired by Bob Root and Jeff Thompson and can be contacted through City Club

Q: How do I propose a speaker or topic for a City Club program?

A: We are always looking for forum ideas and speakers. Please send ideas and materials to City Club and they will be passed on to the Program Committee.

Q: What are the criteria for selecting a City Club speaker?

A: Speakers are chosen at the discretion of the Program Committee. Criteria for picking speakers include:

  • Established speaking ability
  • Credibility/expertise of speaker on the proposed topic (How will professionals in the field regard the speaker? Is this a good topic but the wrong speaker?)
  • Marquee value (Is he/she a "name" speaker that will draw a crowd?)
  • Does the speaker have a "hidden agenda" or is there any self-promotion involved?

For forum topics:

  • Is there a clear, concise and defined subject?
  • Timeliness of topic
  • Is the topic of broad interest to Club members and the community?
  • The relationship to City Club's overall programming

Other considerations:

  • Format: What is the best way to feature the speaker or subject: single speaker, debate or panel?
  • Marketing: How might we broaden the interest in, and attendance at, this program? What other groups could we contact? Is a co-sponsorship possible?
  • Source of the recommendation
